2 Must-Ask Questions to Help You Make Any Decision

Do you struggle with making decisions?

You’re not alone. I used to go back and forth…and back and forth…and back and forth. You get the picture. I drove myself nuts.

Can you relate?

If so, you know that this process of going around and around in your head feels like your brain has been on the spin cycle of a washing machine. It’s exhausting. To make matters worse, sometimes you make it to the end of the metaphorical spin cycle and still haven’t made a decision. Or, you make a decision but continue to go back and forth with yourself, questioning whether you’ve made the “right” decision.

Does any of this sound familiar?

If so, keep reading. I have a tool for you that will revolutionize your decision-making process.

Ready? Here it is. When you are faced with a decision, ask yourself these two questions:

1. What decision would the person I aim to become make?

2. What decision will my future self thank me for?

Try it right now. Bring to mind a decision you’re currently in the spin cycle about. Ask yourself these two questions, and journal your response, or speak it out loud. If this feels really edgy, know that you don’t have to actually make the choice right now. You’re simply getting in the practice of asking yourself.

I don’t mean to make this sound easy. It’s a practice, like any new skill. And, there may be other aspects to address, such as self-esteem, self-trust, or forgiving yourself for what you perceive as past “mistakes.” Still: it’s a place to start.

Give it a go, and feel free to let me know what comes up for you. And as always, I’m here, if you’d like to chat.
