Top 5 Ways NOT to Meet Your Goals: A tongue-in-cheek guide to Self-Sabotage.


1. Do the exact opposite of what will produce the outcome you actually want.

Crave more fun and connection in your relationship? Criticize and pick fights with your partner, instead! Want more respect from your teammates at work? Show up late for meetings, and act distracted whenever other people are sharing ideas, instead!  

2. Procrastinate.

Get yourself on the slippery slope called “I’ll do it later.” I find that more often than not, it easily turns into “Not doing it at all.” 

3. Create excuses.

Stay on the lookout for reasons NOT to take actions consistent with your goals. 

4. Resist structure and accountability.

Make “You can’t tell me what to do!” your personal mantra, and be sure to make it clear you’re not interested in support when other people offer to help you.

5. Avoid setting goals altogether.

The most effective way to sabotage your goals is to avoid making them in the first place. If they don’t exist, it’s literally impossible to meet them!
