I Could Never Be Like You
Recently, an aquaintance expressed feeling particularly stuck in life, and shared something along these lines:
“I could never be like you. You travel all over, you get to teach yoga, you seem to have really great relationships, you really experience life. I could never do that.”
I paused for a moment, a little stunned to hear my own life reflected back in that way. I took a breath, verbally expressed my appreciation for the reflection, and said an inner prayer of “thanks” for life I have consciously created.
In the next breath, I asked permission to share from my perspective. Upon receiving the go-ahead, I offered that living a life of connection, adventure, freedom, joy… has been a very intentional choice for me, and one that has involved gradual transformation, and a shift in choosing from Fear and Should’s, to choosing from how I actually long to show up in life.
It did not happen overnight. It did not happen on my own. It was not, and is not, always neat and pretty. In fact, transformation is at times downright messy. It can be scary as hell. And yet: given the choice to avoid discomfort forevermore in exchange for staying small and safe and comfortable (we all have that choice, every single day), I choose uncertainty and discomfort.
Why?
Because living a life filled with possibility and growth and choice is worth it to me, every single time.
How about you? Are you ready to choose something different for your life? Let’s have a conversation about what you really want. I’m ready when you are.
